The last couple of months have been nothing short of…..BUSY. Busy doesn’t always mean bad though right? Actually, if I were to really think about it….it’s good most of the time. Especially when it means it’s because I’ve been busy having fun with family and friends, or running around with my kids, or even dare I say it….with work. Sure it can be tiring and I sometimes feel drained and can’t think straight but all these things are positive things because it means I’m living life and providing for my family. Now the things I would rather not be busy with are trees falling on my car and dealing with the aftermath, cleaning the house or being around annoying people but I guess I gotta take the good with the bad and always try to look at the bright side. Anyway here’s a little bit of life lately.
Blake started t-ball in April and although he looks pretty enthused in this pic, let’s just say he doesn’t jump for joy on Sunday mornings when it’s time to go play some ball. In all fairness, he’s 4 and a boy so to say he’s a little distracted is an understatement. I don’t love waking up very early (ever) on Sundays but 1. it’s super cute to watch him and his teammates “play” and 2. it gets us up and out of the house a lot faster than we normally would on a Sun.
I got to chaperone on one of Mia’s recent field trips to the SF Zoo hence the school bus selfie. I haven’t been on a school bus in a million years. What’s even crazier is that nothing has changed, meaning still no seat belts, still a bunch of hyper kids and still the ever intimidating bus driver. Not to mention how long it had been since going to the zoo. It takes me back to when I went there on my school field trips with my own mom chaperoning. We had a great day oohing and ahhing over all the cute animals and the highlight was seeing the new baby Giraffe Ingrid that had just been born a couple weeks prior. I was so exhausted by the end of the day but worth it to be there with Mia.
We couldn’t pass up a photo op as a butterfly.
Some of my favorite days are just hanging out in the backyard with the kids because it usually means it’s nice out and it’s free of all the usual distractions like TV, iPads, etc. Now that both kids have gotten over (mostly) their fear of bugs this has become more enjoyable aka less annoying. I think Mia especially loves being outside because it gives her more room to work on perfecting her cart wheels and hand stands and she’s gotten quite good at it. So good that we’re thinking of putting her in gymnastics.
So one of the comforting things about turning 40 is that some of my friends are also turning 40!! #miserylovescompany The great part about turning 40 or any age for that matter is celebrating with your friends and family. This night was no different celebrating Danielle! I treasure these times with friends.
Every year we can always count on the St. Tim’s carnival coming to the neighborhood. As soon as the kids see the rides moving in it’s usually followed up with them asking a zillion times when we’ll be going. I almost cringe when I see the rides because I know what to expect. None the less, we always make our way there and the kids have a blast.
Grinning from ear to ear….until it was time to get off….
We finally got away for the weekend to visit the in-laws. It was a quick trip but the kids loved spending time as always with grams and papa. It’s usually such a short trip that we don’t have much time to do anything while we’re there but this time on our way out we decided to stop at Avila Beach #betterthanpismo. It was an absolutely gorgeous day so we couldn’t resist plus we were trying to avoid our 4 hr car ride back home.
When she’s not somersaulting and plieing (ballet talk) all over the house, Mia LOVES to bake. She obviously got that from her nonna because let’s just say baking (or cooking) isn’t exactly my forte :)
With my help (I swear) they actually turned out pretty tasty.
The 1st/2nd grade classes at Mia’s school had a Mother’s day tea party for all their moms. All the work that went into it was very sweet and thoughtful. All us moms found our assigned seats by finding the place mat and plants our kids made for us. Then the kids came into the gym each holding a rose and walked onto the stage where they sang the One Direction song What Makes You Beautiful that they modified a little to fit the occasion. Needless to say it was super cute and a little emotional. It was definitely a great way to start off the Mother’s day festivities.
Best tea party I’ve ever been to :)
This boy turned 4!! His major obsession is still garbage trucks and anything related. He knows his recycling and he’ll make sure you do too. Favorite day of the week is Tuesdays because……it’s garbage day! He’s still the pickiest eater I know except of course anything with sugar and especially chocolate (duh). I don’t think a day goes by that he doesn’t have a Nutella sandwich at nonna’s house. I figure at least he’s eating. He’s very close to finishing up his first year of pre-school and starts pre-k next fall!
Yes that really happened….
What have you been up to lately?? Is it the weekend yet?!?
